    A number of popular bands have emerged from playing pubs and bars around Digbeth

    Birmingham’s contribution to music culture in the UK is right up there.

    The city is renowned as the home of heavy metal with Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath hailing from the city. It is also where 80s New Romantics Duran Duran honed their globally renowned hits and UB40 perfected their reggae sound.

    Parts of the Ska/Two-Tone scene were also born in Birmingham, which was recently portrayed in Steven Knight’s BBC drama This Town. The city has also produced a number of well known grime and rap artists in recent years.

    The scene attracted widespread attention from the music press, led by local bands, with the NME comparing Digbeth to London's Shoreditch, and The Independent previously writing that "Birmingham is fast becoming the best place in the UK to look to for the most exciting new music".
